Keemun Maofeng (or Qimen Maofeng) is a very high-quality Chinese black tea, originating from the Qimen district in Anhui province. It is one of the most prestigious varieties of the renowned Keemun black tea.
It is a black tea (hongcha) produced using a traditional Chinese method.
The term “Maofeng” literally means “fluffy tip”: it refers to a fine plucking style, consisting of buds and young leaves.
The shoots are harvested in the spring and then shaped into lightly twisted leaves.
Keemun Maofeng is renowned for:
- floral and fruity aromas, sometimes reminiscent of orchid,
- a subtle hint of cocoa or caramel,
- a smooth taste with no bitterness,
- a very elegant amber-red liquor.
Among Keemun teas, Maofeng is considered one of the most refined, often compared to the world's most prestigious artisanal black teas.
