How to prepare your teapot before first use: We recommend filling the teapot with boiling water, while pouring water on its exterior as well. Leave the teapot completely filled with boiling water for about 15 minutes. After this wait, it's good, your new acquisition is ready to use.
How to clean your teapot between each use: Keep in mind that Yixing clay is very porous, and one of its qualities is to retain odors, so you should never put soap or any other odorous liquid in your teapot. After your use, and the many infusions of good tea leaves, throw away these precious leaves, make sure that there are none left in the teapot, wash the inside with clean water abundantly then pour the remaining water until there is none left. Use a cloth if necessary to remove any remaining water, then put your precious teapot back on its dedicated place with the lid and body of the teapot separate, do not close it. When it is dry you can close it.
What teas to use with your new teapot: Technically, you can use any color, or type of tea with your new Yixing teapot. However, as Yixing clay is very porous, it will retain the odors of previous teas, this phenomenon will increase with each use. Thus, we strongly recommend using only one type of tea for each teapot, this will even enhance the tea, and strengthen its taste. Nevertheless, it is quite possible to use a Yixing teapot and completely vary the colors of tea, green, black, puer, white, but it must be remembered that the teapot will have a slight taste, which will be imperceptible if you do not pay attention to it, but which will slightly change the taste of the tea.
Why Yixing clay is so famous: Because it is rich in iron and minerals, and very porous which induces exchanges between your infusion and the Yixing clay. Its porosity also allows for this memory phenomenon explained above.
